According to Business Standard, Trinamool Congress MP Mausam Noor introduced a private member's bill in the Rajya Sabha on July 28, 2024, aimed at regulating artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The "Workforce Rights (Artificial Intelligence) Bill, 2023" seeks to ensure transparency in the use of AI technologies and protect workers from biases and discrimination. The bill mandates explicit and informed consent from employees before implementing AI that affects their work, regular equality impact assessments, and adequate training for employees affected by AI. It also addresses the protection of employee privacy and data security. Additionally, the bill highlights the need to combat data biases within AI systems and promotes transparency in algorithms. Another bill introduced by CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar aims to establish a National Artificial Intelligence Regulatory Authority (NAIRA) to address deepfake issues and ensure digital authenticity. These legislative efforts reflect growing concerns over AI's impact on employment and workers' rights.
