The International Bar Association (IBA) has initiated a comprehensive global survey to assess the evolving impact of Artificial Intelligence on the legal profession. This new "AI Impact Survey" is designed to gather insights from legal professionals across various domains, including law firms, in-house legal departments, and public sector entities. The primary objective is to understand the extent and nature of AI adoption within the legal industry, identifying current trends, applications, and the perceived benefits and challenges associated with these technologies. The survey is a collaborative effort between several high-profile IBA committees, including the Law Firm Management Committee, the In-House Counsel Committee, and the UK's Law Society.

The scope of the survey is intentionally broad, aiming to capture a diverse range of perspectives on how AI is reshaping legal practice and the administration of justice. Key areas of inquiry include the use of AI for tasks such as legal research, document review, and contract analysis, as well as its application in more complex areas like predictive analytics and litigation strategy. Furthermore, the IBA is keen to explore the ethical implications of AI in law, along with its potential to enhance or hinder access to justice for the public. The findings are expected to provide a valuable benchmark for the global legal community, informing future policy discussions and best practice guidelines. The survey is open for responses until mid-September 2025.
