Zviazda reports that Belarus is set to modernize its national census process by integrating artificial intelligence, following proposed amendments to its law "On Population Census." The initiative, driven by the National Statistical Committee, aims to leverage modern information technologies to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and speed of data collection and processing for the next census scheduled for 2030. According to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media, Gennady Davydko, the bill has already successfully passed its first reading in the House of Representatives, signaling strong legislative support for the technological overhaul. The primary goal is to minimize the human factor in data processing, thereby reducing potential errors and speeding up the delivery of final statistical results.

The updated legal framework will not only facilitate the use of AI but also promote the adoption of advanced software and hardware solutions throughout the census lifecycle. This move is part of a broader strategy to digitize governmental functions and improve the quality of public administration in Belarus. By embedding AI into the census methodology, the authorities expect to obtain more reliable demographic and socio-economic data, which is crucial for effective state planning and policy-making. The transition to a more technologically advanced census is seen as a critical step in keeping pace with global trends in statistical data management and ensuring that Belarus can build its future development strategies on a solid, data-driven foundation.
