The UK government announced a £4 million investment in an AI-powered crime mapping system to be deployed across England and Wales by 2030. The system will analyze data from police, councils, and social services, including criminal records and offender behavior, to identify crime hotspots and enable early intervention. This initiative supports the Safer Streets Mission, aiming to halve knife crime and violence against women and girls within ten years. The project complements existing efforts such as live facial recognition vans and is part of a broader Plan for Change that includes deploying 13,000 additional neighborhood policing officers. Prototypes of the crime mapping system are expected by April 2026.
