The order, titled “Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government,” does not ban DEI-promoting AI outright but mandates transparency about embedded partisan perspectives.

Major tech firms like Google, Microsoft, and Meta have not yet commented, while companies face pressure to comply or risk losing valuable government contracts. Critics argue the order politicizes AI development, potentially undermining years of work addressing AI bias and harming fair and inclusive AI design. Civil rights groups warn that the directive may marginalize AI tools designed to support vulnerable groups. The policy is part of a broader Trump administration effort to strengthen American AI leadership and counter China’s influence.
