The University of Pisa has become the first Italian university to establish a formal partnership with OpenAI, marking a significant step forward in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. Through this collaboration, Pisa will leverage OpenAI’s technology to enhance various aspects of university life, including research, teaching, and administrative functions. A key part of this partnership involves the use of ChatGPT Edu, a version of ChatGPT tailored for educational institutions, which will allow students, researchers, and faculty to integrate AI tools into their academic work.

The partnership also includes the development of an innovative knowledge management system, Oraculum/Sibylla, created using OpenAI’s API. This system is designed to provide accurate information on university regulations in multiple languages. Additionally, the collaboration is part of the broader initiatives at the University of Pisa, including the GoodAI-Labs, which are focused on promoting and validating ethical, transparent, and reliable AI systems. These efforts are supported by the FAIR project and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), positioning Pisa as a leader in AI research and application.
