GOV.UK showcases a case study on the UK’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) initiative to enhance AI assurance. The program, launched in 2024, funds projects that aim to "break" or stress-test AI systems to identify vulnerabilities, ethical risks, and operational failures in high-stakes contexts such as national defence.

The UK aims to lead in establishing a framework for AI assurance that ensures safety, ethical compliance, and trustworthiness, particularly in security-sensitive environments. DASA’s approach combines rigorous technical evaluation with legal and ethical considerations.

The initiative forms part of the UK’s broader strategy to become a global leader in responsible AI and is expected to produce models for certifying AI systems in both military and civilian use cases.
