Vie Publique reports that the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) is actively engaging in AI governance through collaborative efforts and strategic planning. During the Global Forum on Artificial Intelligence for Humanity, the OIF emphasized the necessity of a multilingual and inclusive digital transformation. A major concern raised is the risk of technological domination by English-speaking nations and companies, potentially marginalizing French language and culture in the digital age.

The OIF aims to advocate for an equitable and diverse AI development process that respects cultural and linguistic diversity. To this end, it promotes the development of public policies and digital infrastructure among member states, especially in the Global South. The article underscores the importance of international cooperation, legal frameworks, and ethical guidelines that reflect the values and interests of French-speaking communities. The OIF is also considering capacity-building strategies to enhance digital literacy and technological independence within its 88 member states.

This initiative reflects a broader ambition to ensure that AI development aligns with democratic principles, human rights, and linguistic plurality across the Francophone world.
